It’s no secret that Sarasota has incredible beaches. Tourists come from near and far to enjoy a day in the sun, swim in the blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and play volleyball on our waterfront.

There are many options to explore when it comes to choosing a beach to spend the day at. We have miles of oceanfront, resort beaches and private beaches, and each has unique activities that you won’t find anywhere else.

Here are our favorite beaches near Sarasota for you to enjoy with your family:

Siesta Key Beach

This may be the most famous beach in Florida. Known for its powder white sand made of 99% quartz crystal, Siesta Key Beach is stunning with the contrast between the bright shoreline and the blue waters. It is lined with brightly colored lifeguard stations for a picturesque color pop, and of course the peace of mind knowing someone is looking out for you in the water. Siesta Key Beach is one of the most frequented beaches in all of Florida, so be prepared for a crowd.

Venice Beach

Venice Beach is perfect for a family outing. With many places to settle down for a picnic, enjoy the sunshine, and rinse the sand off your toes, it’s a convenient place for a full-day adventure. Not only is it a great place to swim, beachgoers often find fossils and trinkets at Venice Beach like shark teeth and sand dollars. There are volleyball courts set up and a ton of space to build a sandcastle or two. This beach is supervised by lifeguards to keep you safe.

Longboat Key Beach

Accessing the beach on Longboat Key can be a challenge. With minimal public access points and only a small amount of parking, this private beach is quiet and secluded compared to the more popular tourist beaches. Large homes line the shores of Longboat Key and have private access to its stunning ten miles of white sands. Don’t expect to find restrooms or a canteen at this beach. It has very few amenities to limit the traffic and keep it private for residents.

Sarasota is known for being one of the best destinations in the world for white sands and warm waters. For those who live here, having the beach nearby is therapeutic and a great way to get fresh air with the family on a day off. Next time your family heads out for a day in the sun, check out one of our beautiful beaches and enjoy some vitamin sea.
